Just finished watching the last tie in Round 1 between Sam Stosur and Sofia Arvidsson in what was a somewhat surprisingly easy match for the World #48, It's no secret Sam Stosur has had Ankle Surgery to fix a bone spur in November and her foot was heavily strapped today but you can't take anything way from Sofia Arvidsson's win as she hit forehands down the line so well and dragged Stosur around the court forcing her into errors at times and in truth Arvidsson should have won the match sooner then she did she had 5 set points in the opening set before taking it in the tie break, Arvidsson on Serve looked impressive and hit 5 aces compared to Stosur's 1, Stosur also hit 7 double faults and 48 unforced errors in a much that she struggled to hold serve in just about every game. Stosur was the highest ranked Australian in the home tournament, Stosur is the 2nd top 10 player to go out of this years Brisbane International in Round 1 and Sofia Arvidsson will now go on to face American Sloane Stephens in round 2.
Sofia Arvidsson ( Sweden ) beat Samantha Stosur ( Australia ) 7-6 7-5
