It's Kind of a Funny Story Movie Review

I'll be the first to admit i am not really a huge fan of American Comedy/Drama films, usually i love the Drama aspect of Films but sometimes American Comedy can be pretty repetitive and much more forced then British Comedy however lately I've been watching a lot of American Comedies and some of the recent ones have surprised me including this one.

The Plot of film in short follows a 16 year Craig Gilner who contemplates suicide by jumping of the Brooklyn bridge shortly after he decided to get help and stays in a psychiatric hospital for a week, Craig has a lot of problems including being in love with his best friends Girlfriend and being under pressure in high school, in the hospital he meets a few people who changes the way he sees life including Bobby (Zach Galifianakis) and Noelle (Emma Roberts)

The Lead Actor of the film (Keir Gilchrist)  is pretty unknown, i haven't seen him in anything before this film, i thought he suited the role really well and played the character good, I have seen Emma Roberts in a few films like this before one of the recent ones being "The Art of Getting By" i suppose in a way she is like her aunt Julia Roberts because i think a future Drama role would work perfectly for her rather then her usual RomCom Roles she is playing now but in this film she did a pretty good job but i suppose the role didn't demand much from her, Zach Galifianakis was for sure the best thing about the film his background story and chemistry he had with the other characters was noticeable throughout the whole film and he seems to be a really versatile actor nowadays.

I thought the film started of pretty slow at first but after half an hour the background story of the characters at the Hospital made it more interesting, i thought the Drama side of the film was much more evident then the Comedy side of it although there was a few really funny scenes in the film that mostly came from the Egyptian  guy Muqtada who Craig had to share a room with in the hospital, some of the film parts were really cleverly done like when every time Craig was under some sort of pressure to do something it would change to him imagining he was famous, Overall it was a really good movie with a good message at the end and a good story and also produced really well and if you like movies like The Art of Getting By you'll love this

Positives - Zach Galifianakis playing Bobby, the Plot, the Egyptian guy Muqtada
Negatives - more like a Drama then a Comedy for the most part ( suppose only a negative if you wanted it to be purely a comedy) lack of a soundtrack or a not very good one at least
Rating - 7/10
