The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Movie Review

I have never read the novel but i regard that as a good thing since there probably would have been tons of spoilers, before i watched the film i had read other reviews about most of them were favorable, scoring the film around 80% or 8/10 from just reading the plot i thought it was pretty simple and like a lot of other Dramas these days and wasn't sure why it was getting such good reviews, anyway i gave it a chance and here is my review

The story is centered around Charlie who has just started his freshman year who has recently lost his best friend after he committed suicide, he also has to deal with his own mental illness and struggles to make friends because of his Awkward personality until he meets Patrick and his first love Sam. Charlie the main character in the film is a really interesting person and it's good to see his personality develop throughout the film i think Logan Lerman did an excellent Job playing such a versatile role and Emma Watson was amazing as usual playing the role of Sam although it is still pretty funny how British she sounds in American Films and Ezra Miller added a lot of comedy into the film and also did a job playing the role of Patrick. One of the best things above the movie was the Music score and how well it fitted into some of the most important scenes in the movie making them much more emotional, there were a few times the film seemed like an average drama/Romance movie but it had moments which you can't compare to many other films out at the minute, Charlie's flashbacks throughout the story leading up to the ending were a massive part of the film and left you thinking what they could mean right until the last few minutes, It was great to see Nina Dobrev star in  such a big film as well i think we'll be seeing a lot more of her in the future and after The Vampire Diaries is over.

I wasn't so sure about the opening half an hour or so the story was going pretty slow up until Charlie met Sam and Patrick at the football game and then from then on it was great, the scenes between Charlie and Sam were done so well with some incredible acting, i loved the friendship between Charlie and his Teacher Mr Anderson as well and it was pretty fitting how Mr Anderson's advice helped Charlie so much in the later part of the film, the truth or dare scene, Party scene where Charlie was high and the Cafeteria fight scene were all amazingly done. There are flashbacks throughout the movie between Charlie and his Aunt which aren't really explained fully until the ending but it's a massive part of the movie, i was pretty impressed with the storyline and the storylines of the other characters were pretty interesting i think the positive reviews it got are well deserving but maybe a little overrated as the story was pretty simple, at times in reminded me of my favorite TV Show ever The Wonder Years which was always going to make it get a decent score from me

Positives - Amazing Chemistry and acting from Emma Watson and Logan Lerman, fantastic music score that  fitted in perfectly with some of the scenes, the up and down emotions of the film
Negatives - a lot of Parts felt like an ordinary Drama/Romance movie, storyline was pretty simple
Rating - 7.9/10 ( Missed out on the 8 because i class 8 as great and this just falls a tiny bit short of that )
