Brisbane International 2013 Day 2

The main headline of Day 2 is Caroline Wozniacki's first round defeat as she continues her poor run of form that has been ongoing over the past year, Wozniacki started the game strongly against world #103 Kazakhstani ksenia Pervak winning the first set 6-2 and it all looked routine but the qualifier Pervak despite making 61 unforced errors took the second and then the deciding set to win her first match against a top 10 player, Wozniacki came back from 5-3 down in the deciding set to take it to a tie break but Pervak eased into a 5-0 lead and from there wrapped up the match and leaving Wozniacki with yet another disappointing defeat to add to her collection in 2012.

There was no shock for German pair Sabine Lisicki & Angelique Kerber as they both won their first round matches, Lisicki made short work of Lucie Safarova winning in straight sets 6-2 6-4 to set up 2nd round meeting with the World #1 Victoria Azarenka. Kerber found it a bit harder in her game against Georgia's Anna Tatishvila, Kerber took the opening set 6-2 before Tatishvilla came back to win the second 6-4 and then Kerber secured a shakey deciding set.

Sloane Stephens impressively came through over Dominka Cibulkova in straight sets to take herself into the 2nd set, The #36 will play the winner of Stosur and Arvidsson. elsewhere Alize Cornet completed a hard fought victory over Qualifier Bojana Bobusic to set up a meeting with Serena Williams and Monica Puig continued her impressive run by beating wildcard Australian Rogowska in straight sets and the 5th Seed Errani came out on top against Olga Puchkova and will face Kerber Round 2.
