Brisbane International Update Sharapova Withdraws and Vika Beats Lisicki

Just a quick update on what's been happening in the Brisbane International over the past 2 days, Sharapova withdrew from the tournament because of an right collarbone injury but she believes she will be ready in time for the Australian Open in just under 2 weeks time, Lesia Tsurenko took Sharapova's place in Round 2 and managed to beat wildcard Jarmilia Gajdošová in 3 sets after heavily losing the first se she came back strong to win 1-6 6-1 6-4 to move into the Quarter finals elsewhere in the bottom half of the draw Petra Kvitova suffered a set back to the start of her season with a straight set defeat to Pavlyuchenkova and Another top 10 player Sara Errani also suffered a bit of a shock loss to Daniela Hantuchová after winning the first set Hantuchova came back to win and secure a place in the Quarters and in the final game of the bottom half Qualifier Monica Puig couldn't find a way past Angelique Kerber in a great game that show cased the qualities and potential of Puig, Puig in the third set tie break lead 5-3 and could have took a scalp from a top 10 player early on in her career but she couldn't see out the match and Kerber thought back (despite Puig saving 2 match points to take the match) 3-6 6-4 7-6, it was arguably the best match of the year so far so i'd advise watching the highlights ( Full match not uploaded yet)

In the top half of the draw Serena Williams easily came out on top in a routine victory against Alize Cornet, Cornet really didn't do anything wrong but Serena was just her usual composed and faultless self for the most part of the match and nothing less then you'd expect from her against an opponent that was never going to trouble her in the slightest when Serena is on form, Fellow American Sloane Stephens also won her 2nd round match to set up a Quarter final meeting with Serena after beating Sofia Arviddson 6-3 6-4, Qualifier Ksenia Pervak pulled off a great win over Urszula Radwanska after coming back from a set down she won the second set and took the third set into a tie breaker, Pervak saved 4 match points before gaining the upper hand in the deciding tie break to win 3-6 6-2 7-6 ( will post match when it's uploaded )

In the last of the matches in Round 2 Victoria Azarenka played Sabine Lisicki and even though Sabine hit Winners for fun all match she also found the net to many times and made to many unforced errors to trouble Vika at all, Vika's second serve was feeding Lisicki to hit powerful forehands that Vika had no chance of getting to which is where most of Lisicki's points came from all match, Vika's first serve however looked good at times and she managed to hit 2 more aces then Lisicki in the match, Lisicki moved around the court really well and had a lot more variety in her game compared to last year using more angled shots and taking the pace of some to give Vika problems at times but in the end Vika's consistency and her lack of Errors in the game saw her over the line in a match she looked a bit rusty with her movement but at the same time looked calm and composed even when she was under pressure from Lisicki for most of the match, Lisicki can also take positives from the game with her movement and forehand but she needs to look at reducing the Unforced Errors in her game.
